Awards, fellowships and graduate awards

The Fellowships and Awards Committee is a six-member faculty committee that oversees applications for two types of graduate fellowships: those for which a campus nomination is required (Carnegie Endowment, Churchill, Marshall, Mitchell, Rhodes, Sperling, Watson), and those for which campus evaluation is requested by the granting agency (Fulbright). There are also four undergraduate fellowships for which the committee nominates students: Beinecke, Goldwater, Truman, Udall.

Information on the application process for these fellowships is available on the website and from Virginia Hancock, chair of the Fellowships and Awards Committee, or Jo Cannon (Eliot 422), committee assistant.

National Science Foundation and Mellon Fellowships in the Humanities are handled separately. Information on these awards is available in the career services center.

In addition, the following awards are conferred at the time of commencement: the Class of '21, the Garlan Prize in Philosophy, the William T. Lankford III Memorial Humanities Award, the Gerald M. Meier award for distinction in economics, and Phi Beta Kappa.
