Reed College Canyon

canyon imageWelcome!

This is the homepage for the Reed College Canyon, located at the headwaters of Crystal Springs Creek on the campus of Reed College in southeast Portland, Oregon.

The Reed Canyon provides 26 acres of high quality wildlife habitat in the midst of the city and has been identified in the Johnson Creek Basin Protection Plan as "the only naturally occurring pond (or lake) remaining in the inner-city area." This website will tell you more about the canyon and the ongoing canyon restoration effort. If you're new to the Reed campus, you might want to start by looking at our canyon map.

The Canyon Restoration

The Canyon Restoration

The Reed canyon is in the middle of a major restoration project that will remove invasive species and return the canyon to a more natural state. The restoration should improve wildlife habitat and water quality in the Johnson Creek watershed. We have an overview of the restoration projects on-line as well as the text of our Canyon Enhancement Strategy.

Canyon Plants

If you're interested in the botany of the Pacific Northwest, be sure to visit our plants page. We have photographs and descriptions of many of the native plants found in the canyon, as well as a page of information about our invasive species.

Check out our (new) weblog

We've moved our weblog to a new location; canyon users can still  share their wildlife observations and other notes about what's going on, to keep us all a little more informed as the restoration project continues.

If you have any feedback or suggestions about the blog, drop a note to zac.perry@NOSPAMreed.edu (Take out the "NOSPAM" portion, of course). Thanks!
